Remember how watching TV used to be? The old fashioned way was that you turned on the TV when your show was on, watched it, and that was it. If you were patient enough to figure out the controls, VHS recording allowed consumers to watch some shows later, but slow control of playback, and playback quality itself, made this a less than satisfactory experience. That’s all in the past now though, with digital technology and hard disk drive (HDD) recorders changing the way we experience television completely.

HDD recorders usually work by sitting between your various inputs and the display in your home theater system. Good models have twin digital TV tuners built in, so you can watch any TV station as normal, and record a different channel – or even record two channels at once! The most powerful feature of these recorders is the ability to access digital program guides, showing in advance which show will screen, when. To record a show, it is usually as simple as navigating to that show in the program guide, and selecting to record it – you don’t have to figure out the date and time, or program anything else manually. Best of all – when you watch your recorded show, good players offer the ability to automatically skip ads, so look out for this feature when shopping for a hard disk recorder. Another invaluable feature is the ability for live TV to be paused or rewound. Your recorder can be set to store a certain length of the most recent show, and you are essentially playing this back in real time. If you pause the show, the recorder keeps on recording, so you can take a pit stop at any time and pick up from where you left off.

As the name suggests, your HDD recorder uses an internal hard disk drive to store information, just like in your computer. Disk drives are measured in Gigabytes (Gb) and the bigger your drive, the more shows can be stored. As a rule of thumb, a 160Gb drive should offer around 100 hours of recording. As with any piece of consumer electronics, many models offer extra features that can enhance your home theater experience significantly. These can include built in DVD or Blu-Ray players, USB playback of other media files, and even the ability to burn recorded shows to disc. Choose the features you need in advance, and you are less likely to make the wrong choice when buying your HDD recorder.

Video recorders have been available for a number of years. There is now the PVR. These have a built-in Freeway receiver, sometimes more than one. Freeview, the brand name, then markets those that meet their standards. The main goal of Freeview is to raise awareness of digital TV recorders.

If they receive Freeview service then all must meet their required specifications. Freeview does not manufacture the units; instead, they award their label to manufacturers that meet their requirements. Many major manufactures have joined Freeview – such names as Sharp, Sony, and Daewoo.

The Freeview recorder generally offers a number of features. These include a time shift, pause/rewind, upscaling, and top-up tv. In order to use the Freeview you need very little equipment. Of course a TV is a necessity. You will also need the Freeview box. The TV can be either a digital or an analogue. However, it must have a scart socket. Most of the Freeview recorders also work with the different surrond sound systems.

The Freeview box might be just the receiver if you just want to watch. However, if your intention is to record programs then you will need the recorder. The recorder allows you to record any of the channels without tape. It is a totally tapeless system. The recorder has a built in tuner so it is not necessary to have two separate boxes. The recorder uses a hard disk drive. It stores your recordings. Whatever programs you choose to record will stay on the machine. This means you can only play back the program on that particular machine. You cannot take it to your bedroom, for example, to play on another machine. This is available on a VHS recorder but not on a Freeview.

The TV with Freeview Recorder devices have a Freeview record, typically the hard drive type, which is a part of the TV all in one unit. This allows a person with little space to have everything they need in one component. Also, this means a person does not need a number of power supplies and cables which can make any room look cluttered. Basically, a Freeway recorder showing the Freeway + logo simply needs to be plugged in. After you read the instructions you are ready to use the new equipment. Since Freeview has recently added the Series Link and Accurate Recording this makes recording all the more simple. This allows you to select a program. If you want to record more than one program, in the series, you can choose the series link.

The amount of television that people watch around the world has increased vastly over the last thirty years or so. This fact has caused continual technological advancements in this field. People’s hunger for new gadgets and equipment for their homes has created an extremely strong demand for these items. The hard drive freeview recorder is one of the most recent additions.

They are fantastic pieces of technology, and can be found in millions of homes across the globe. Their ability to record and hold large amounts of data and emit television channels at the same time makes them highly desirable.

These inventions are often referred to as PVR’s an acronym that stands for personal video recorder. The advantages that they have over the standard recorders of old are what set them apart. They are completely digital; this means that the picture quality that they give is far superior to the older sets. This obviously will depend on the quality of television you have too. They have vast amounts of memory so that you can store all of your favourite movies and television programs whenever you want. Even if you do manage to fill the recorder, you can purchase extra memory. It will take a long time to fill one though. As everything that is saved on the box is pre-recorded, it means that one can eradicate the need to watch any adverts. There is no cassette either, so there is no need for annoying rewinding of tapes.

One of the best features of the hard drive freeview recorder is the ability to pause live television. This is an invaluable addition to the product. The number of times that you come to a vital part of a movie, or the crucial part of a game of football or soccer, and the telephone rings or someone comes to the door. With the older sets, this can mean that you miss this, the new recorders can pause live television and you can resume once the distraction has been dealt with. This is a highly useful and amazing technological advancement.

Most of the hard drives that are available are fitted with integrated program guides. These allow you to access all the channels at once. If you have a particular series that you love, but are never home to watch it, you can set the recorder to record the entire series for you automatically. All of these features make hard drive freeview recorders a great buy.

Since the 2005 introduction of one-box digital terrestrial tuner/DVD and hard drive recorder combinations, all major brands have launched their own models.

As long as you have good quality Freeview reception, these appliances save you having to connect recorders to separate digital boxes. Fuss-free and space saving, they allow you to record a channel on Freeview while simultaneously watching a DVD or a recording you made earlier.

If you are worried about problems with your Freeview reception, look for a model that has a back up analogue tuner. Different brands offer different features on their boxes, so it is worth while doing a bit of research to help you work out what is the best one for you. Read electronics magazines and browse Internet review sits – learn from the experience of others and avoid making a purchase you might regret.

All electronic manufacturers (Sony, Pioneer, Panasonic and Philips to name just a few) have a selection of freeview hard drive recorders. In the first instance visit their websites to get the official specification of each model, and then shop around for the best buy.

One model that receives consistently positive reviews is the Panasonic DMR-EX769EB-K Freeview+ 160GB Hard Disc Drive DVD Recorder 1080p Up Conversion. It is part of Panasonic’s award earning, industry leading DIGA DVD Recorders. These are widely acknowledged to have set the benchmark for DVD Recorders ever since they were released several years ago.

This model is easy to use with just one remote to control all your AV components thanks to the VIERA link.

To sum up, the ease of use and fantastic picture quality of this Panasonic combi make it one of the top freeview recorder. With all the features expected of a recorder, plus a few extras, it comes with detailed instructions and it is recommended to read through these (although they are lengthy!) so that you have some understanding of the different settings. Generally, though, users note that they can just plug it in and it is ready to go. It has a series link option for easier recording, and impressive editing functions that have impressed reviewers for whom this is a priority, even when transferring old VHS material to DVD.

Camcorder and digital still camera linking and juke box with CD database are two of the extra features, giving you even more options from this piece of equipment.

With excellent recording features, adaptive HD enhancer and great freeview playback, this Panasonic model is generally thought to be a good investment.

Freeview recorders are certainly a good buy. However, the problem is that whenever it comes to buying gadgetry, people are always more sceptical than they should be optimistic.

I mean, why worry too much about product features when you could simply buy the product and enjoy it. Nevertheless, doing so makes you knowledgeable about features contained in the product. Here I will tell you a few useful things about these recorders.

Generally, these a Freeview recorder has a DVD recorder. This means they make it possible to record content on television, or any other source, and have it stored on a DVD CD. A great detraction has been made from the conventional Video Cassette recorders that recorded content onto video cassettes. Very recently immense strides have been made and they have become more advanced than they were at first.

It is now possible to have a combination of television hard drive recorder and a DVD recorder. With this amazing bonding you can free up space from the hard drive and transfer content to a DVD CD. Some of th0ese actually make it possible to record material onto video cassettes.

Over and above there are more features than you could ever imagine. With differing capacities of hard drive storage space, several hours of television can be recorded. Standard 160GB recorders can actually record close to over 200 hours of standard quality recordings. Of course, a lesser number of hours can be recorded if you want high quality recorded material.

However, such freeview recorders generally have one tuner. Because of this drawback, you are restricted to watching the channel you will be recording. Despite this fact, there are still a lot more benefits of using them. Pause TV and automatically changing start are two distinct features that somehow stand out. This is overshadowed by the fact that it is standard for all recorders to have this.

In addition to all these features, there are a lot more other ones. With an HD TV HDMI output is available for your benefit. In addition, you also get the privilege of High Definition Up scaling. This does not mean that you are going to have picture quality of exceptional quality. What it means is that the picture quality of your television will improve quite significantly.

Freeview recorders are generally a good buy. By allowing yourself the freedom of purchase, you bring yourself closer to living in a futuristic world. With a little monetary investment, you should be able to enjoy all these features.

The size of the storage included on the device determines how much playback time the device has.

Both the Freeview hard drive recorders and DVRs have many different features. Some of the features include easy navigation, the ability to watch one channel while recording another one at the same time, screen in screen playback, pausing of live television, approved energy ratings and more. These recorders also come in a variety of brands, including Sagum, Humax, TVonics, Topfield and more.

Using any one of these recorders is sure to make any life easier, especially when one family member wants to see something at the same time you do. Since the recorders allow for dual watching and recording, there no longer has to be a fight about who is going to watch what show and at what time. They are very easy to use and easily programmable-even without the manual. All you have to do is pick a show to put on you want to see, then pick out another and record one of them. They will even record when you are away, just program the device to start recording at any time of the day or night you want it to.

These recorders of freeview also come in many different colours, so no matter what colour the room is, you are sure to find one to match. If you are a fan of regular coloured white rooms, there are white devices to match. If you like your electronics a little more on the traditional side, most of these devices are available in black as well. There is also a stainless steel coloured range for the slightly eccentric.

The Freeview Recorder devices have many uses and only one includes the ability to watch and record, you can store other data on these devices, making them definitely worth the money you will spend on purchasing one.
